This is the 2nd shoot I have been blessed to do work with Cosmopolitan Hong Kong and it is with great pleasure that I can share it with you all! It's been published in their September issue but for those of you haven't had a chance to check out the spread, take a look at the shots here!
I had reached out to Julia Morris, a fantastic stylist and art director, a month before my trip to NYC. I did a little research on the stylists available in NYC and immediately fell in love with her work! We then emailed back and forth on what we wanted to do while in contact with the editor of Cosmopolitan HK. When I finally arrived in NYC, we went location scouting to make sure we knew the locations we wanted to shoot in on the day itself.
At this point in my career I am happy to say that for the most part the butterflies in my stomach and pre-shoot nerves aren't as batshit crazy anymore. This shoot however definitely tested that as we started off on the wrong foot with the original model simply never showing up! How rude! Even though the shoot ended up only starting hours later, kudos to Elena Kantaria for coming through on incredibly short notice as a replacement. Talk about saving the day! She also absolutely rocked the shoot! Totally grasped the concept, grasped the look, was a complete team player and a pleasure to work with. Thank you! :)
The whole shoot was shot in natural light with a reflector. What a pressure cooker since we were working against the clock and we were really trying to make the most of a very specific sun light window. The last couple shots were a little tricky since it was getting late and we had to rely on the reflector. In the end though it all came through!
A big apology and a big thank you to the team as we did A LOT of walking that day! We had a hotel room which was basically treated as Shoot Day Headquarters so we would scurry there for wardrobe / styling changes, scurry to the next location with gear in hand and then scurry back. Not sure what the team would have enjoyed less ... changing bathrooms or all the walking we did? At least we burned some calories that day! Thank you again to my wonderful, amazing, hard working and understanding team!!
A highlight for the New York trip and a highlight for my 2016 so far! Overall if this shoot taught me nothing else, it definitely taught me that no amount of planning can substitute having a reliable, skilled, passionate and hard working team. Thrilled with the experience, thrilled with the results and thrilled with the opportunity to work with Cosmopolitan Hong Kong again!
